Reynolds Community School tops this year's Insha writing competition- Second time running.

Buckner Kenya's Reynolds Community School in Cherangany has emerged winners of this year's Insha writing competition. The annual event saw all the 36 candidates compete for the top price, with three students emerging among the top ten in Western region. This is the second time that Reynolds School has produced top students in the essay writing competition.

Reynolds Community School in Cherangany, has clinched top position in this year’s Swahili essay writing competition dubbed ‘Shindano la Uandishi wa Insha,’ for the second year running.

The annual competition saw grade eight pupils; Kennedy Kiplimo, Becca Awino and Matilda Nasambu grab positions one, three and six respectively, a move that

made their Swahili teacher Mr Peter Mucha, to be in a transport of delight.

“I am so happy that our students clinched the first position for the second time in a row. We have experienced tremendous growth in the performance of our grade eight candidates in most subjects, over the years.  In 2018, we had one student top the entire Western Kenya region. This year, we managed to produce three top

students. We are hoping for the best in the coming years,” Said Mucha.

More than 2,000 pupils from various schools in the Western Region battled for the grand price of Ksh. 4,000, with the top students receiving ranks based on their

prowess in competent use of language, innovation and effective handling of subject matter.

Mucha confirmed that all the 36 grade eight pupils from the school are encouraged to participate in the competition, so as to sharpen their Swahili writing and

speaking skills.

“I encourage all the students to write essay’s monthly. This is done after taking them through the components of an effective and interesting Swahili essay, oral

class presentations and group discussions. This unique strategy has made the mastery of Swahili language an easy and interesting journey for the pupils,

since they are able to receive feedback from their classmates, as well as gain confidence during their presentations,” he said.

'Shindano la Uandishi wa Insha' was launched by Nation Media Group’s Taifa Leo Newspaper in 2011 with the objective of promoting Swahili as a national language.
